Hojōjutsu捕縄術
A historical Japanese martial discipline for securing a person with cord or rope, and one of the roots of kinbaku.
Hojōjutsu means “restraining rope technique”. Constables carried a capture rope for securing prisoners, a role later filled by handcuffs. Itō Seiu studied hojōjutsu, and he is credited with turning its forms into the beginnings of kinbaku.
